Augusta GA Residental Market Report for January 2011

January is the start to a new year and brings with it hope for a more stable economy for both the nation and our local Augusta area.  January is typically a slower time in the real estate market.  The weather can be kind of bad and everyone is recovering from Holiday Spending and are not really thinking about buying a house at that time; however, there are always a few that never follow the trend.

Here are the Augusta Housing Market Stats for January 2011:

Augusta Total:

  • 250 Homes Sold
  • $153,643 Average Sales Price
  • $67.90 Average Price per Square Foot
  • 172 Days on Market Average

Columbia County Totals:

  • 104 Homes Sold
  • $196,050 Average Sales Price
  • $77.19 Average Price per Square Foot
  • 178 Days on Market Average

Richmond County Totals:

  • 86 Homes Sold
  • $111.973 Average Sales Price
  • $54.71 Average Price per Square Foot
  • 155 Days on Market Average

Aiken County SC Totals:

  • 36 Homes Sold
  • $150,615 Average Sales Price
  • $75.00 Average Price per Square Foot
  • 181  Days on Market Average

January 2011 was only a few sales lower than January 2010 which had 253 Homes Sold.  Hopefully this is a good sign for good things to come this year!  If you need additional information or need a market analysis performed for your home please contact me.

Enjoying Date Night on the Cheap!

This morning I was reading an MSN article about 20 Dates Under 20 Bucks and I thought what is there to do on a Friday or Saturday night in and Augusta for under 20 bucks! So after some searching around here are 5 things that I found to do for this weekend.

1. Screen on the Greenat the Columbia County Amphitheater – Twilight for only $2! on September 19, 2009 (please confirm in case of rain)

2. Ice Skating at Augusta Ice Sports Center - Cost is $7 per adult plus $ 3 fee for skate rental.  It gets cheaper if you have a military I.D. – $5 with a current military I.D. Enjoy this activity on either Friday or Saturday night from 7:00 pm until 10:00 pm.

3. Red Wing Rollerway offers skating from 7:30 pm – 12:00 am on the weekends.  The cost is only $8 per person and this includes skate rental.

4. See a movie this weekend at GTC Masters 7 Cinemas for $1.99! Current showings are: A Perfect Getaway; Aliens in the Attic; Orphan; Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs; Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen; The Proposal; Up; and Blood Creek.

5. Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival is this weekend.  Cost is $5 in advance from any SRP Federal Credit Union or $7 at the gate. Children 10 and under are free!

Hope you all have fun!

Back To School!

Grovetown HSAugust 10th marked the first day of school for not only my children, but the children in Columbia County, GA.  I’m not sure if those going back to school were happy about this, but I sure was!  My two children attending school are ages 9 and 16 which is a huge span!  My sixteen-year-old was more than happy to finally go back to school and my nine-year-old wasn’t too excited about it.  I guess he just isn’t old enough to miss the socializing part of attending school.

My daughter is another story.  She has missed seeing her friends even though they stay in contact constantly thru Facebook or texting via mobile phones.  She was also excited since she is attending the brand new high school, (Grovetown High School), this year as a junior.  Things seemed to be moving along at the new school with only a few hiccups.  She had to have two schedule changes but seems to be pleased with her teachers.  Everyone of the teachers and staff members we spoke with at the open house and registration event were all very helpful and accommodating!  I think with the positive attitudes the staff has at the new school even those small little hiccups will get resolved smoothly.  What a refreshing breath of fresh air!

I am hoping that this school year will be a great year for all the children, teachers, staff and parents.  I know that I am looking forward to the upcoming fall season as well as football!  Hopefully the cooler fresh air of fall will arrive sooner than later here in the CSRA.  If anyone is needing information please click on Columbia County Schools.

Salute to My Husband!

This evening I enjoyed dinner out at Olive Garden on Washington Rd with my husband, SFC Justin MacEwen – US Army retired, and family.  Today is the official start of his retirement from the US Army.  I know this is a big change for him, since he has been in the military for over 18 years now.  He served two tours in Kuwait and Iraq and due to a back injury sustained during his second tour he was medically retired.  I am very proud of him and his service to our country.

While this is a bitter sweet moment and a life changing event, we now get to look forward to being a little settled and get a chance to establish roots in a community!  The great thing about the Augusta and the CSRA is the proximity to Fort Gordon.  Hopefully he will get a chance to enjoy some of the perks offered at Fort Gordon.  He has always enjoyed shooting and hopefully now he can take the time to enjoy the offerings at the outdoor shooting range on post.  They recently remodeled this facility and it now houses the Fort Gordon Sportman’s Club.  He has always wanted to try skeet or trap shooting.  Luckily he is getting to take a little time off before he starts his new career on post.

He plans on helping me update the blog with some facts about Fort Gordon so you will be hearing from him soon!
