Hephzibah, Georgia is located Southeast of Fort Gordon and South of the City of Augusta, GA. The Town of Hephzibah is a charming town with a little more rural feeling than that of Grovetown. Parts of Hephzibah are located within the city limits of Augusta since all of Richmond County was incorporated into the city limits in 1996. Hephzibah was named after a group of religious scholars from the Hephzibah Baptist Association.
You find everything from new home subdivisions to farms with acreage out in the Hephzibah area. Since this area is a short drive to Fort Gordon’s Gate 5, it is an area that military members consider when PCS’ing to Fort Gordon. Hwy 1 or Dean’s Bridge Road provides easy, direct access to downtown Augusta and the Medical College of Georgia and Medical District. This area is also convenient to Plant Vogtle which is located in Waynesboro, GA.

The Augusta International Raceway was opened in 1960 and closed in 1970. The Half mile oval track was part of the NASCAR Grand National Series during 1962 to 1969. The 3 Mile road circuit that was next to the ½ mile oval has been incorporated into Diamond Lake Regional Park complete with a memorial monument to recognize the raceway and its history.
Diamond Lakes Recreation Center is a 286 acre park located in Hephzibah, GA. The park features walking tracks, picnic areas with grills including a covered pavilion, both youth and adult baseball and softball fields complex, horseshoe pits, volleyball courts, and playgrounds. There are four stocked ponds for fishing, a tennis center, community center and library. The community center includes gym with basketball courts, racquet ball courts, walking track and workout equipment. This is a sports lovers paradise!
Jessie Carroll Park and Recreation Center was just recently taken over by the City of Hephzibah. The City plans to repair and maintain the facility that was basically abandoned by Augusta in 2007. There is a Community Center, 1/3 mile walking track, tennis courts, athletic field, playground and BBQ Pitt.
Blythe Recreation Center is a few miles away from Hephzibah. There is a community building, gymnasium, playground, picnic facility and ¼ mile walking track. The Community Center hosts a variety of activities, programs and classes. They also have after-school care along with senior services.
