About Grovetown, Georgia:
The City of Grovetown, Georgia is located in Columbia County and is outside of Fort Gordon Gate 2. Grovetown is considered a “small town” compared to the neighboring city of Augusta. Grovetown has grown in the past 10 years from just 6,089 residents in 2000 to 11,216 in 2010! Grovetown continues to grow with the addition of several new subdivisions in the area.
Grovetown was officially incorporated in 1881 and is rumored to be named after the old Grove Baptist Church that was founded in 1808. Many affluent and influential residents of Augusta came to Grovetown during the summer to escape the heat and disease found near the swampy river areas close to the city.
At the center of Grovetown is the new City Hall, which was built in 1997. Adjacent to the City Hall is the Grovetown Memorial Park which includes a Memorial Wall which pays tribute to the long military heritage and relationship with Fort Gordon. During the Holidays, the Memorial Park is decorated with hundreds of lights. Next to Grovetown Memorial Park is the Grovetown Museum, which is housed in a historical home built in the 1800’s that was moved to build the new City Hall.
Due to Grovetown’s close proximity to Fort Gordon, the area is very popular with both active duty military and contractors working on post. For that same reason, investors also like the area as a rental home market. Some service members buy a home in Grovetown to add to their property portfolio as an investment and will rent out the home once they PCS to their next duty station.
One interesting tidbit is that John Deere’s Commercial Products for Turf facility is located in Grovetown off of Horizon Parkway South.
